Kimsooja, To Breathe – Archive of Prototype, Anvers

A film by Gilles Coudert

Year of production: 2024

Duration: 10 min.

Original version

Kimsooja was invited to the KMSKA, Royal Museum of Fine Arts in Antwerp, in the exhibition “Window on Infinity”, a tribute to the Belgian painter Jef Verheyen. At the same time, she presented the exhibition “To Breathe – Archive of Prototype” at the Axel Vervoordt gallery – Kanaal in Antwerp. At the museum, Kimsooja establishes a dialogue with the works of Jef Verheyen by diffracting light from exterior openings with dichroic filters, designed with scientists. At the gallery, she revisits the stained glass windows created for the Saint-Etienne cathedral in Metz by presenting 15 prototypes of stained glass windows suspended in the space to fill it with colored glows, like three-dimensional paintings.

During an interview, Kimsooja combines her intentions with the thoughts of gallery owner Boris Vervoordt.
